A few Sundays ago we decided to eat out after Ignacio finished work. After eating Turkish food the day before, I had a craving for Greek fare. Turns out it may have be more for dessert than the savoury classics!

For the mains, we ate some tasty but otherwise unremarkable wraps – chicken for him and lamb for her and then a swap at half time!

Then it was time to chose dessert. I picked galaktoboureko and he picked portokalopita.

Galaktoboureko is a traditional Greek dessert made with layers of golden brown crispy phyllo, sprinkled with melted butter, filled with the most creamy custard and bathed in scented syrup
Portokalopita is a Greek orange cake made with orange zest, Greek yogurt, and dried crumbled phyllo folded into the cake batter. It’s known for its zesty orange flavor as well as its sticky sweet texture thanks to the orange syrup poured over the baked cake.

Both desserts quite sweet! Balanced out a bit with the thick dark Greek coffee that I sipped at the end.
