The working week over and I spent my mother’s house for my weekly Friday catch up and meal.
It was a pleasant surprise to find that my mother has made a chicken pie for us to eat.
It made a lovely change from the Eba and soup that I normally have and once again reminded me of the pies our parents would make when we were children.
We ate it with some plain boiled rice, which was somehow perfect.

Mummy used sella rice. Sella rice is a rice processed by parboiling it with its husk on (giving it that golden/ yellow) it is then dehusked and milled. These cooked grains were separated, not sticky or too soft and just tasted ‘fresh’. I don’t know a better word to describe it! I know the rice that I make does not quite turn out like this. I live and learn.
