I’m 90 minutes early for my fortnightly hair appointment, which today (Saturday 6th April), randomly is the ‘old place’ in London. I guess I did punish myself with early start but I wanted to travel in with my husband who was going the same way. This meant it was a touch too early for breakfast for me but the time I made it to my destination I was ravenous-ish. I had planned to frequent one of the usual places Pret or Caffè Nero, but as I came out of the Tube station into the spring sunshine I thought ‘why should I limit myself? Other places are available’. So I kept walking until I reached ‘Happy Bones Coffee’

Over the years I must have walked past this place countless times and it had not sparked my interest. Today however it looked cute and inviting, just my type of thing. I was not particularly looking for a caffeine hit, just cosy containment. Somewhere to pass the time dreamily away. This morning, at Happy Bones Coffee, the coffee grinder was incidentally not working, so there was no coffee to be had. I was however pleasantly surprised to see Horlicks on the list. Horlicks a drink from my childhood that I have reclaimed from the past and incidentally is my drink of choice when I get to work these days. It provides the soothing comfort I need after racing across the motorway in the early hours of the morning.

So while my yawning and tears (am I the only one who ‘cries’ when tired?) was evidence for the need of an acute caffeine infusion, the universe had decided that it in fact I was deserving of creamy malty goodness. Along with the biggest croissant I’ve even seen…

So I sat in the corner and enjoyed my early breakfast.
